FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  •   I am exclusively working remotely at the moment due to COVID, but normally offer both options. I work via the HIPAA -compliant and encrypted Zoom platform.
  • Absolutely, or I wouldn’t offer it! My clients see the same results in and out of the office. Sometimes it is harder for me to witness subtle body responses from a distance, but if I’m every in doubt of what I think I’m seeing, I just ask!

  • EMDR is often done with equipment inside the office, but the magic of EMDR isn’t in the equipment. In fact, the equipment is quite simple in function—it simply stimulates, in an alternating pattern, both sides of the client’s body. We are able to get creative with how we do this, and clients have done “butterfly hug” tapping, tapping their legs, marching, squeezing their hands, or eye movements by downloading apps or even placing post-its on a wall! Completely doable!
  • In general, my availability for private appointments is:
    1. Tuesday 7:00AM PM-8:00 AM/10:00AM-2:00PM/4:00PM-5:00PM
    2. Wednesday 11:00 AM-2:00 PM
    3. And Thursday 10:00 AM-5:00 PM
  • Groups and online classes are as advertised—consider signing up for my mail list at spiritedgrowth.com
  • I do counseling with adults. I do NOT work with couples or children.

  • As with everything, there are two exceptions:
    1. I will teach children and families mindfulness skills via my yoga therapy practice (i.e. this is NOT counseling).
    2. I will work with some very mature and insightful high school students. We will determine if it’s a fit together.
    3. I will see couples who are not in conflict but instead are trying to find the way to navigate birth trauma or pregnancy loss TOGETHER.
  • This is a question I’m happy to address in our free phone consultation. Meanwhile, here’s the websites of major organizations I’m certified through:
    1. Certified EMDR therapist: www.emdria.org
    2. Certified yoga therapist: www.iayt.org & www.pryt.com
    3. Certified yoga therapist: www.iayt.org & www.pryt.com
    4.  Certified CBT-I therapist: www.cbtforinsomnia.com

As a certified EMDR practitioner (the highest level of training) I am happy to be a trained EMDR intensives provider. EMDR Intensives are essentially making the choice to do a multiday mental health “retreat” and do EMDR for 3-10 days for 3-6 hours per day with a certified EMDR professional. This is a great option for:

  • Those who have a complicated life outside of therapy where immediate stressors tend to usurp your EMDR time on a regular basis.

  • Those who feel a bit spent after sessions (with intensives you can consolidate that “emotional hangover” to just a short window before all is resolved)

  •  “DOERS” who just want to get it done and move on to the next thing.

Ask if you think this may be a good fit for you!
  • I am an expert in calming the nervous system response, and we can move as slowly or as quickly as YOUR body needs. It’s important to stay in the zone of tolerance when processing anxiety and trauma, and many people need to move slowly due to dissociation or physical issues (I have a good number of clients dealing with chronic illness and autoimmune issues). I balance this need to move more slowly with a desire to get real change fast, and most of my clients comment that they make more progress quickly with the “bottom-up” approach of working with the bodymind than they have in years of more cognitive therapy approaches.
  • While I am trained in bottom-up, body-based approaches, I, of course, am also extensively trained in talk-based approaches. There is ALWAYS room for the story, thought process, and strategizing!
  • I do not take insurance. I run a cash practice. People also are also generally able to use their HSAs.
  • Keeping the input and limitations of insurance out of the picture gives us some flexibility in how we work together: for example, I am able to offer 25-, 55- and 85-minute appointments so we can tailor to your immediate needs. You may only need a 25-minute appointment when growing skills or in maintenance phases. Other times, 85-minute appointments make sense when we are tackling active trauma and want to make the most progress in a single meeting.

  • I also offer EMDR intensives in half day and full day formats (180 or 360 minutes). Insurance often does not cover this very effective option for getting through your traumas and challenges quickly.

  • This choice also keeps diagnoses out of the way. Some diagnoses can follow us around for life. Other diagnoses may not be considered sufficient for insurance to pay, and yet you are experience significant challenge in life! Keeping diagnoses out of the decision for worthiness of treatments helps us to just be people trying to figure out how to do life. Quite NORMAL.

  • Finally, insurance adds cost and hairiness to the process of just getting the help you need when you need it.
  • 25-minute counseling: $105
  • 55-minute counseling: $200
  • 85-minute counseling: $295
  • As a parent in a high health-expense household, I take affordability for my clients very seriously. I GET it!

  • As a result, I tell clients of options to supplement therapy by connecting you with additional resources as needed in terms of practitioners, free offerings around town, etc.

  • I also run in-person skills groups and online classes to help keep your costs down. For example, mindfulness skills, sleep (cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia) and calming skills are common needs for my clients, so why not take them in a group so you can use your private time to focus on your specific story?

  • I strategize with my clients to space appointments more closely for focused and quick results early on and then find the ideal spacing between appointments as quickly as possible. We also strategize the ideal appointment length together during each phase (25-, 55-, and 85-minute sessions)

  • Finally, I offer a standard sliding scale and a couple of deeper discounts to those with need.
